A detailed sensitivity map for the palaeontology of KZN has been released by Amafa. This will allow developers to accurately determine whether a development will impact on fossil sites. The study, commisioned by Amafa, was carried out by Metsi Metseng Geological Services, includes detailed shapefiles of three significance levels indicating the probability of encountering fossil material. Part of the team that carried out the study was prominent palaeontologist, Dr Gideon Groenewald.
This is the first provincial study of this type. The report and mapping will be available from the Amafa website
